Google could be on the verge of sending out an entirely new build of Android for the next-generation smartphones and tablets sooner than later and previously, a number of reports have pointed towards the build’s existence, or that it is in development. Now, per reports, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie has apparently made its first benchmark appearance with some positive results.
The new information regarding the benchmark was attained from an entry over at NenaMark. The entry shows the Sony LT30i (a close cousin of the LT30p Xperia T) going through the benchmark’s procedures while running Android 5.0.0 Key Lime Pie as its operating system.
The report could also be a simple hoax. According to a Pocketnow report: “Surely, we’re all looking forward to the day when Android 5.0 might arrive, and by modifying a phone to report that it’s running such software, a prankster could easily deceive us with just what we’re looking for.”
The Android device in question that’s running Android 5.0.0 in the NenaMark benchmark test is apparently a Sony LT30i, which is a current gen phone that’s equipped with a 720p HD display (1280 x 720 resolution,) 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 processor, and a Qualcomm Adreno 220 GPU.
Moreover, per Mobile Syrup, because “Sony is a close partner of Google, and may be readying its own Nexus phone, it’s entirely possible that the hardware manufacturer has been granted early access to Android 5.0 as part of the Android PDK.”
There have been rumors previously that Sony may be working with Google on a future Nexus device, and maybe that collaboration could lead to the Android 5.0 flagship model. Although it is expected that the device won’t be the LT30i, a possibility exists that Sony is simply testing the software on some of its hardware with which it’s already pretty familiar.
This instance, however, is not the first time that Key Lime Pie has been in news. Previously it was reported that the futuristic OS from Google was just around the corner. At the time, rumors suggested that Key Lime Pie is set to introduce some new and unique, never-seen-before features. The new features included the ability to stream even more content via Google Play, as well as run games unavailable on other phones and tablets.
It could be possible that Android 4.2 will be the last of its kind that is being pushed out by Google currently, before introducing an entirely new Android interface. Previously, Android 4.2 was thought to be Key Lime Pie.
