HTC owners finally have some good news heading their way. Per reports, HTC has divulged some information regarding the eagerly anticipated Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for the company’s Droid Incredible 2 smartphone.
The company confirmed on its official Twitter page that it is currently working on the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Droid Incredible 2 as a response to users asking about the possible arrival of the update.
The information was revealed when a HTC user Chris C asked the company: “@htc Where is the ICS update for my Droid Incredible 2? It's now almost 3 months since the projected deadline passed. Have you forgot us?”
“We’re working on connectivity issues with the software. We're working on a resolution and we'll share information as we’re able,” the company replied.
The question that was asked seemed legit as it has been over a year and a half since HTC first launched the Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon. Although the phone was quick to get Gingerbread with the updates arriving last summer, the big question on the minds of owners was as to what’s going to happen regarding the phone’s long-anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich update.
Verizon later assured that the Droid Incredible 2 would be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich update since as far back as March, alongside the phone popping up on HTC’s official list of ICS updates shortly. The manufacturer, at that time, stated on the list that it would finalize the handset’s upgrade plans by the end of August.
Now with August getting over and still no updates as of yet, users were starting to get impatient with the manufacturer’s policy regarding the update.
“For a device that released at the start of 2011, consumers will still be hoping that the device gets updated to Ice Cream Sandwich at the very least, especially if the chances of getting an official Jelly Bean update are zero – which obviously looks that way now with the Droid DNA taking focus,” a Product Reviews report states.
The Product Reviews report also states that it “still remains a mind boggling practice for us, when carriers and manufacturers can decide themselves when to provide official Android software updates – not the other way round with the consumers in charge, or some official law making carriers stick to a strict deadline at least.”
Although the possibility of an ICS update has been confirmed by HTC, it still remains to be seen as to when the device will finally get the Android upgrade.
