HTC Deluxe DLX 1080p Smartphone Not Headed To Europe

The HTC Deluxe DLX 1080p smartphone (or "phablet") has recently leaked online, but it now seems that the device will not be heading to Europe.

When the HTC Deluxe DLX surfaced online, most people assumed that the handset was the European version of the U.S. HTC Droid DNA and Japan's HTC J Butterfly.

According to HTC, however, the recent HTC Deluxe photo leak from notorious Twitter user @evleaks does not depict an European device.

"The HTC Deluxe will unfortunately not come to Europe," HTC wrote on its official German Facebook page.

The leaked pictures seemed to reveal a "phablet" device basically identical to the HTC Droid DNA and HTC J Butterfly, sporting a 5-inch Super LCD3 1080p Full HD display. HTC released the first 1080p smartphone back in October, when it launched the HTC J Butterfly in Japan. A resolution of 1080p delivers a whopping pixel density of roughly 440 pixels per inch (ppi), i.e. about 25 percent sharper than current high-end handsets such as the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3.

If the HTC Deluxe DLX follows the same pattern as previous releases of the core model, the handset should pack a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 quad-core CPU under the hood, and 2GB of RAM. The smartphone should also sport an 8-pegapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash, and a BSI sensor, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter. Other features should include Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection for extra scratch-resistance, and a 2,020mAh battery for better performance.

It remains uncertain at this point just where the HTC Deluxe DLX is headed to, if it is not bound for Europe. PocketNow, for instance, speculates that the new version may in fact be just another American variant meant for another carrier, or maybe it is bound for the Asia-Pacific region. Another question that remains lingering is when, or if Europe will eventually get some of HTC's 1080p smartphone goodies.

On the other hand, anything is possible for now, and HTC Germany may have simply meant that a smartphone with the name of HTC Deluxe DLX was not bound for Europe. If HTC Germany is just being overly literal, a 1080p HTC smartphone may still head to Europe, but under a different moniker.
