Android fans now have a new opportunity to support their favorite platform: a darker version of the Andru USB phone charger.
In a multitude of Bugdroid-sporting cases, T-shirts, bumper stickers, and all sorts of Android gadgets, Andru creators Gen have decided to go a bit darker, and offer an alternative to the ubiquitous shade of green adorning pretty much all Android accessories.
The Andru Dark Edition is just what it sounds like: a dark version of the Andru phone charger, available in a simple black shade.
Available for purchase with a $25 price tag (plus shipping) from Gen's Web site, the Andru Dark Edition has the same posable arms, antennae, stand, and cable as the original, just that instead of green it comes in a matte black finish.
Moreover, the eyes of the Andru Dark Edition now light up in a Terminator Red shade for charging, or Amber for standby, resembling the black figure from the Dead Zebra Series 1 of vinyl toys.
"Everyone has a dark side, including Andru. His red 'charging' eyes are ever-watchful and only slightly sinister, and he'll most assuredly add some edge to your charging experience," reads the description on Gen's Web site. "Andru Dark Edition is not looking for trouble, he just wants you to join him. He's as powerful and effective as he's always been, and he's not afraid to prove it. Just try not to fall under his spell."
The new Android gadget is "stealthily small," measuring just 2.5 inches in height. When it comes to specs, the Andru Dark Edition USB phone charger has a 120~240V AC input, 5V/1A DC output, needs very low standby power, and has a Level V efficiency. The Micro-USB cable is detachable.
Meanwhile, the original green Andru continues to be available, with the same specs and the same $25 price tag. White and pink versions of the Android gadget, as well as a car charger and international versions, are also in the works, slated for 2013. The Andru Chill, i.e. the white version, should reportedly be the first one to become available, even sooner than 2013.
