Android 4.2.1 Update Pushed Out For Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 10

Good news for Nexus owners all over the world. Per reports, Google has just started to push Android 4.2.1 (Build JOP40D) update for the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 10.

This is a major development after it was recently reported that the Android 4.2.1 update for the Nexus 4 had started rolling out across the globe. At that time it was predicted that other Nexus devices such as the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7 would also be receiving the latest software soon. Now, as promised, Google has started rolling out Android 4.2.1 to these devices as well.

For any user owning a Galaxy Nexus smartphone, the update is available for those using the Takju and Yakju versions of the handset. Note that the update is available as an over-the-air update and the software is still in the process of being rolled out.

If the user does not see the option to update his or her device, then there is no need to worry as it should roll out soon enough. Nonetheless, the XDA forum has already provided download links for anyone wanting to manually update their handsets. Those with a custom recovery mode can download the zip file, copy it on to the device and flash it through the same.

“The Android 4.2.1 Build JOP40D is a really minor update and is mainly just to fix the ‘December Bug’, which prevented any date in the month of December from being selected as a birthday, wedding, appointment in the People app,” a SamMobile report states. “In Short, People App was missing the month ‘December’, January came next after November. The update also fixes the Bluetooth issues which some of the users were having.”

Google had announced the Android 4.2 last month, and this new version still retains the Jelly Bean branding like Android 4.1. The camera app of Android 4.2 now features the Photo Sphere, which enables users to take high resolution, 360-degree photographs on all axes. What this does is it gives the pictures a look much like Google Street View.

Users will also be instantly able to share the photograph on whatever medium they desire, and this includes Google Maps, that is, if they want to make the picture public.
