Facebook For iOS, Android Updated – Optional Automatic Photo Upload Added

Facebook has taken the mobile domain – both iOS and Android – by storm for quite some time now, but that doesn’t mean that the company has stopped making the web-based application even better. Now, per reports, Facebook has now added the optional automatic photo upload option to its Android and iOS apps.

The automatic photo upload option is yet another Facebook mobile apps feature that borrows from its social network competitors. The company is calling the feature "Photo Sync," and for some it may sound a bit familiar, which is because the feature has been in limited testing in August.

However, this is not the first time that the Photo Sync option for Facebook mobile has made its way into the web. Last time the feature was in news was when it was reported that Facebook was testing the feature for Android owners, and it would sync photos the users shoot on their phone straight to their Facebook accounts.

A report from The Verge indicated that the feature was “a hybrid of Google+'s instant photo-upload feature and Apple's Photostream, which uploads any picture you take to the cloud and syncs it with your other iOS devices and computers. With Facebook's Photo Sync, any time you take a picture on your Android device, the photo uploads but remains private inside a "Synced from Phone" tab inside the social network's new Photos page."

The newly pushed out Photo Sync feature works on the iOS and Android apps, and is set to automatically upload every photo the user takes to a private "Synced From Phone" album, from which the user can choose which ones to share and which to delete. Users will be limited to 2GB of cloud storage. Interestingly, the feature is pretty similar to Google+'s instant photo uploads.

While most users will be thinking as to how the device’s battery life and mobile data usage will be affected by the new feature, they will be thankful to know that Facebook is also on the same page with them. The company has decided to include an option to sync only over Wi-Fi. For the ones deciding to sync the photo over mobile data, images will be uploaded at a smaller size (let’s say 100KB), with photo sync turning off when battery levels are low.
