Android 4.2 Has Multi-User Transparency Bug

Android 4.2 is the newest refresh from Google that has been pushed out to suitable devices that meets the new operating system’s standards. While the new OS has a lot to offer for users loading it on their devices, there is still a long way to go for Google before the company can claim that the refresh is perfect.

Recently, a new issue that has added more problems to the Android 4.2 release and evidences that it is one of the more glitch-filled Android releases in recent memory is that there is problem with the OS’ multi-user support, making graphics render with some unintended transparencies.

“In many applications the desktop wallpaper and icons bleed through. See attached screenshot where the eyes are actually my wallpaper. It seems to happen on areas of the screen where certain textures are being drawn. It happens in about 50% of my games,” the official Google page states.

From what users have been able to work out and understand of the situation is that the issue only pops-up when a user is making use of an app via the tablet’s non-primary account. In certain other situations, it will fail to render a screen with the proper opacity, and this will cause the background to show through. As it is shown in the corresponding image, the user’s wallpaper and home screen icons are bleeding through to a game of Flick Golf.

“The image descriptions have more information but basically when my husband uses his account on my N7 he gets odd bleed through bugs that show the icons in his app drawer under games he is playing. On my account (the primary account for the device) everything is fine, even using the same apps,” one user owning a Nexus 7 states.

It is not yet known what is causing this problem. Per reports, affected users have discovered that the problem seems to go away if the offending app is also installed under the primary user’s account.
