Instagram CEO Confirms Twitter Integration Removal, Denies Act of War Between Twitter and Facebook

Twitter users were left with distorted and cropped Instagram images in their news feed on Wednesday, but Instagram's CEO said it was done in order to give users "the full Instagram experience" if they're drawn back to the company's own site.

On Wednesday morning, Instagram photos appeared too large for the space provided on Twitter and are cropped as a result. In a status update on its website, Twitter said: "Users are experiencing issues with viewing Instagram photos on Twitter. This is due to Instagram disabling its Twitter cards integration, and as a result, photos are being displayed using a pre-cards experience."

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom, speaking at the LeWeb 12 conference in Paris, said that the decision to distance itself from simple Twitter integration was not because they were bought by Facebook earlier this year. "This isn't actually a consequence of us getting acquired" he insisted, pointing out that "we have a really good relationship with Twitter."

"We will always be integrated with Twitter in a way that you can tweet out from Instagram to Twitter," Systrom said, according to Verge.

Alhough Systrom assured users that Instagram will always be integrated with Twitter in order to enable them to tweet out from Instagram, the service will now shift to direct users to the newly launched Instagram website in order to view images.

According to TechCrunch, Systrom confirmed that the cropped images issue will soon be non-existent as the images won't be viewable on Twitter at all. "This is an evolution of where we want links to our content to go," stated Systrom.
