After staying low-key for a time, Johnny Depp has finally come out and made a rare public appearance following his bitter divorce from actress Amber Heard. The 53-year-old actor surprised everyone with an unexpected performance for his friend in one of the recent celebrity-filled events in Los Angeles, the Vidiots Foundation Presents The Harry Dean Stanton Award event.
Depp sported a rocker type character with a goatee and a combination of different necklaces, bracelets and rings. Thanks to an all-black outfit, his performance with the 90-year-old Stanton looked fantastic at the Theater at Ace Hotel on Sunday night, Oct. 23, as reported by People. The unexpected performance included the Doors drummer John Densmore, Kris Kristofferson and the Mariachi group.
"The Pirates of the Caribbean" actor's guitar performance was nicely collaborated with the honoree, Stanton and other musicians. While Depp went into rocker mode, Stanton preferred to stick with the classics by wearing a loose brown suit for his performance. In the event, the host Ed Begley Jr also presented Stanton with the very first Harry Dean Stanton Award. Depp has worked with the veteran actor Stanton on film projects like "The Man Who Cried" and "Rango."
The Stanton Award performance has been one of Depp's first appearances after his much-talked about divorce from Heard. The actor's fans though can rest assured that it won't be the last. Depp is expected to make more public appearances in the following weeks for the promotion of his upcoming movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales." As for Heard, she has been signed to play the role of Mera, Queen of Atlantis in the upcoming "Justice League" movie. This is so far her first major role after their divorce.
Although the released trailer of "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" shocked many because of Depp's absence, fans of Jack Sparrow were relieved when they were given a glimpse of the fan-favorite character in an illustration on a wanted poster. The movie is slated to hit theaters in May 2017.
