A few months ago, WhatsApp succeeded in gaining 1 billion users, and now the messaging application is east to take a big step toward setting its position. Finally, after the long wait, the arrival of WhatsApp video calling on Android is here!
As reported by Tech Crunch, the feature is now functional in some of the Android smartphones via the beta application, following its recent arrival in the Windows Phone version of the Facebook-owned messaging app. The iOS app was also updated just last week, but video calling support was not included at that time.
If you are not in the beta program, you can get the video calling feature of WhatsApp by simply downloading the latest APK from APKMirror. Just remove the current installation of WhatsApp and install the beta to experience the new feature. After installation, you will be able to make and receive video calls, given that your contacts have the feature as well.
If you're interested in trying this functionality out for yourself, you can join the beta program through the Google Play Store by hitting the "Become a tester" button.
For those on a version of WhatsApp which includes video calling support already, you can tap the call button or on a contact card to kick off a video call. In this case, a new dialog box will appear, offering the choice between a standard voice call and a video call. In addition, the call log will show which calls were made via video by annotating them with the camera icon, instead of the telephone icon.
Users have long requested the video calling feature for WhatsApp. However, for many years, it has remained missing from the app. According to Digital Trends, this is a little strange considering Facebook Messenger has had video calling for long time already. Note that WhatsApp is owned by the Facebook management.
For now, let us congratulate WhatsApp for finallygetting video calls for Android users.
