Mazda shared with us, that they will launch two concepts based on MX-5 to this year's SEMA 2016.
The MX-5 Speedster and Mx-5 Kuro, both concepts were produced by Mazda Design Americas to showcase contrasting directions that create a "Mazda Premium" experience. They were designed and built in-house by Mazda's Design team in Irvine, California.
The first one is called the Speedster Evolution and -you guessed it- it's an evolved form of last year's Speedster concept. Finished in White Ether, the Speedster Evolution takes the lightweight concept even further with more than 100lbs (over 45kg) removed from last year's show car. Tipping the scales at just under 2,000lbs, the new MX-5 Speedster Evolution is around 350lbs (160kg) lighter than a stock Miata with a soft top, reported from Car scoops.
However, Mazda has not yet revealed how exactly it cut that extra weight.
On the other hand, Mazda's other concept is crisp, The MX-5 RF Kuro is based on the new-for-2017 Miata RF retractable-hardtop variant. The Miata RF's power-folding Targa top operates like the Porsche 911 Targa's subtle roof in concept, although it's considerably plain on track.
Mazda also is displaying the MX-5 RF Kuro concept, based on the 2017 MX-5 Retractable Fastback that will be on sale early next year. MX-5 RF Kuro is painted in a semi-matte metallic concept color developed in-house called "Kuro," which means "charcoal" in Japanese. It rides on 17x7.5-inch RAYS forged wheels, 215/45R17 BF Goodrich Rival G-Force tires and the adjustable suspension from the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich, according to Cleveland 19.
While both concepts are almost subtle in a scene of SEMA builds, I can say they are both pretty damn good in all ways. So, which one would you take home?
Mazda's MX-5 Speedster Evolution and MX-5 RF Kuro concepts will be on display at the SEMA Show in November, more details and photos will be posted soon. Stay tuned.
