Port Orchard, Washington - Pegy Lowery still recalls the day as she has took her 12-year-old daughter to the hospital, only to find out that it was too late. She knew that Piper was sick with the flu but she had no idea that it could actually get any worse. Just within hours of being rushed to the hospital, she died from complication of H1N1 virus.
Three hours later, on January 16, Pegy had the worst day in her life. That is, saying goodbye to her daughter. In one of her interviews, Pegy said that she terribly misses Piper every single day, and it still doesn't get any better up to this day.
According Komo News, Pegy had allegedly skipped flu shots for Piper over the past years since she was aware that her daughter was afraid of needles. She's thinking that vaccination for her little girl is not that necessary because of the notion that flu would always be possible.
Pegy claimed that her daughter had already been seen by a doctor thrice where she was given treatment such as antibiotics. However, nobody saw it coming that something inside Piper's body is already happening. It was later found that the H1N1 virus has attacked her kidneys. Furthermore, the doctors' suspect that the 12-year-old girl was already suffering from renal failure the day before Pegy took her to the hospital but apparently, no one has just realized it yet.
As per CBS News, Pegy is now up for a mission of spreading awareness by sharing Piper's story and encouraging others to get a flu shot, something that her family has taken for granted. Through a partnership with Fight the Flu Foundation, the mom is said to be actively helping in spreading the message in every homes.
As of the present time, Pegy aims that others would consider what happened to her as an eye opener. She claims that she wanted her daughter's legacy to live forever by putting an end to the stigma about flu shots where people are either not educated about it or the fear that people put into themselves. According to Pegy, having this flu shots really does save lives.
