XBox Update: XBox One Gets Better Audio With Dolby Atmos

Microsoft is finally improving the audio in the XBox One. The company announced in its New York media event held Wednesday that the Xbox One and XBox One S will now have Dolby Atmos audio support.

During the Creators Update event where Microsoft unveiled a number of new devices and new features on old ones, the company also announced the new update for their popular Xbox line. The update will be available in spring 2017, the same time that the company's update for their Windows 10 iOS will be released.

Fans of XBox have been disappointed that the both consoles do not support next-gen audio standards despite having the Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, according to a report. The number one complaint regarding the Xbox One and Xbox One S is that they cannot output to a Dolby Atmos AV receiver. While both consoles can feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, users have not been able to tap into it.

The update will now allow the owners to use their game consoles as home media devices. In other, words, the XBox is no longer just for games. Owners can now play music in them.

Not only that, Dolby Atmos and bitstreaming will also work with movies and games that support it on both XBox consoles. This will give players a different and better experience while playing their games or watching films.

XBox owners can fully enjoy the surround sound that Dolby Atmos offers as long as they have the Atmos speaker setup. The Atmos support is only compatible with its own speakers.

Atmos, Dolby's surround sound technology was first released in 2012 according to Windows Central.

The XBox is currently among the popular gaming consoles today and is in a constant battle with PlayStation for the title. This new feature will help it win more fans.
