With hopes to keep their legacy alive, Sega launched a Mega Drive Classics Hub on Steam earlier this year. This acts as an interactive launcher for all Mega Drive games, which also allow modders to create an emulated version of their games like Streets of Rage and Sonic the Hedgehog. However, some of these mods were removed from Steam on Tuesday without explanation.
Removal Of Mods Without Explanation
Dozens of Steam Workshop mods has reportedly vanished from the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis Classic Hub without knowing why. Sega has now released a statement, suggesting neither them nor did Valve remove the mods. According to the company, the mods were removed automatically due to some erratic user behaviors.
"Due to some erratic user behavior over the last few days, many mods; which didn't breach Steam's terms of service were automatically removed from Steam Workshop. SEGA and Valve are working together with the affected modders to reinstate their work as soon as possible and have already reversed a number of removals".
About SEGA Mega Drive Classics Hub
Launched on April 28, 2016; SEGA Mega Drive Classics Hub is a virtual environment intended to support emulated Mega Drive games by acting as its loader. Along with this, Sega also announced Steam Workshop support for all Mega Drive titles; which gives an opportunity for fans to share their modified versions of the different games. This is all in hopes to maintain the legacy of retro gaming we grew up with.
The hub is a 3-D creation of an early 90's kid bedroom equipped with an old school CRT TV and boxes of Mega Drive games. Nostalgic virtual playground provided with dynamic time-of-day conditions, even display sports posters of Golden Axe and Streets of Rage on the walls. In-game playing showcases high-functioning features such as a full controller and keyboard support, ability to save at any point of the game, optional graphic enhancement filters, and even supports local co-op for selected games.
