NASA Confirms Facebook Live Spacewalk Video Is A Hoax

Recently, a Facebook live video claiming to be happening simultaneously as the space navigation happens had been viral on the social media. The said footage, which shows two astronauts outside the international Space Station has gained millions of viewers across the globe. However, NASA had immediately clarified that the said video is not accurate in any way.

As per the Daily Mail, during the circulation of the viral video, netizens were then reported to be glued on their devices as they watched the two astronauts descend from the International Space Station into the depths of space via Facebook Live. It was allegedly believed that many of the popular media outlets like UNILAD and Viral USA have also shared the video clip which has respectively gained millions of likes, shares and views.

Experts claim that not a single astronaut has ventured outside the International Space Station since September 1 and NASA spokesperson has also clarified that the video streaming was, in fact, inaccurate and just a hoax.

According to Naked Security, the fake video which has quickly circulated online through UNILAD's Facebook Live looks like it well might have been similar from the 2013 video that shows the ISS Expedition 38 and a spacewalk by Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Sergei Ryazanski.

NASA has further explained that if people really wanted to have some photos, videos and other interesting multimedia stuff, they can just go directly visit the NASA TV and as well as their various social media accounts so as to learn accurate news and information about space science.

On the other hand, Facebook has already confirmed that Internet connectivity from Earth to the International Space Station and back can be feasible. Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has allegedly facilitated an online Q and A with an astronaut aboard the ISS using the Facebook Live tool.

So next time you'll see something on Facebook, one lesson that we can all learn from this incident is not to believe everything that we see online without further investigating it. Nevertheless, it is hard to deny the fact that the premise of someone livestreaming in the ISS is a pretty novel idea.
