Tesla CEO and founder, Elon Musk, announced that the new Model 3 has already reached 400,000 in pre-orders. The CEO promises that the Model 3 is better than the previous models and is a lot better in features and performance.
The first reason that consumers may have for wanting to wait for the Model 3 is performance. According to Tesla, the Model 3 can go from zero to 60 in under six seconds, or just 4 seconds to be more precise. That is a unit that even some performance cars cannot simply achieve without modifying and adding some third party aftermarket parts.
The second is safety. Tesla has been receiving five stars for every safety rating possible since its Model X version during testing. The Model S also ranked as the top one when tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2013. The Model 3, being the newest one, will surely have more safety features equipped and will probably be the smartest of its models.
The Tesla Model 3 is also going to be the cheapest among the three models, which can be the third reason why you should wait. The Model 3 is priced at $35,000 dollars, which is half of the Model S, priced at $70,000 dollars and the Model X, which has a tag price of $80,000 dollars.
As promising as it can be, there might also be the reason why you do not need to wait for the Model 3.
First, there are other options available such as the Nissan Leaf. With a base price of only $29, 875 dollars and a zero to 60 mph time of 10.4 seconds, this electric hatch can be a competitor for Tesla. Sure, the zero to 60 mph is not that great as the model 3, but the cheaper price tag can mean that you have money left for some mods than can possibly make the Leaf a faster sprinter.
Second, the Tesla Model S had a not-so-good-history with its autopilot system. An incident happened that the Model S allegedly failed to spot a truck and caused a fatality. Yes, safety was mentioned earlier, but you might want to give it some thought before deciding, as the technology is still fairly young.
The Tesla Model 3 is surely a great machine; it is innovative as it is advanced, it has its highlights and low lights. If you are one to wait, then go ahead and get one once it becomes available. However, you may want to use the time to conduct your own research and get in touch with experts before you decide and spend that hard earned cash that you have been saving for so long in the back.
