Samsung's C-Lab Startups Include A Humming App, A Wearable 360 Degree Camcorder And A Waffle

Samsung unveiled new startups that were developed through its Creative-Lab, the company's in-house program for startups.

The Korean company announced six new techs to add to the previously released startups like last year's Welp, a fitness belt that measures the intake of calorie. These are just six of more than 150 projects currently in C-Lab's startup stable.

The C-Lab is reminiscent of an incubator herein ideas are hatched and developed until ready to be shown to the world.

Ahead

With Ahead, helmets are now more than just protective devices. Samsung's startup device allows bikers, motorcyclists and skiers to communicate while riding or skiing without using their hands. The user can also listen to music and receive voice notifications.

The concept of the smart helmet isn't entirely new. In fact, the Skully smart helmet was just scrapped a few months ago. The AR-1 was supposed to have heads-up display, 180-degree rear-view camera, and audio and video navigation.

FITT360

The FITT360 is a headset that allows the user to record 360 degree videos. The wearable camcorder is hands-free and easy to handle unlike other 360-degree cameras in the market. The headset resembles the visor worn by Geordi La Forge of Star Trek.

Hum On!

The Hum On! app is "designed to help people make their own music" by simply humming a tune. The smartphone captures the sound while the music app transcribes it into a musical notation in real time. Users can write music without the aid of an instrument.

ItsyWatch

ItsyWatch is a smartwatch for children. Samsung believes that the virtual pet game akin to the Tamagotchi digital game of the 90s will help children learn the value of building good habits. The game requires the user to take care of his or her digital pet regularly so it will grow and develop well. The wearable tech also shows the child that healthy habits like brushing teeth are rewarded.

LiCON

The LiCON's tagline is "Control what you see". Simply put, the new app uses the camera of a smartphone to create a "smart home". Simply take a picture of any smart device and the user can control it with the phone. The app, for example, will provide channel and volume controls of a smart TV.

Waffle

The Waffle app lets users post on a virtual wall which can be shared with friends. The other friends can then add their own touch on that post creating what the company calls a "social artwork".
