Apple continues to face production issues with its super-slim 27-inch iMacs as the tech giant is finding it hard to provide adequate supply of the redesigned product more than a month after its launch. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese tech journal DigiTimes reported that the mass production issues are largely linked to Apple's main iMac panel supplier, LG Display.
Citing unnamed sources, the report said LG is facing full lamination issues while producing the panels and this issue is slowing the pace of the production, bringing the shipment rate down to 100,000 units a month. However, the report said the problems are expected to be resolved by February and the LG Display would bring greater value to the Apple products.
The hit-or-miss publication said the LG Display has brought greater fortunes to the Cupertino tech titan's 21.5-inch iMacs as the shipment of this model has reached nearly 300,000-400,000 units per month now.
According to a recent Apple Insider report, the Apple Store updated its website saying it would take at least three to four weeks to ship the 27-inch iMacs. Earlier in Dec. 2012, the shipment date was given as sometime in January. Foreseeing the supply shortage, Apple CEO Tim Cook had anticipated a significant shortage of iMacs in the December quarter.
