It is now officially confirmed. "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie is now in production but it has no official release date yet. This time, Tim Miller will be involved as the movie's executive producer and not its director. The movie is expected to be released sometime in 2018.
Details Of The Cast Will Be Announced Later
The task of directing the live action-animated film was given to Jeff Fowler. But there is still no definite list of the cast of "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie. Sony Pictures announced that Tim Miller will act as the executive producer and the screenplay will be written by Josh Miller and Patrick Casey.
Sony Pictures is collaborating with Marza Animation Planet to produce this live-action animated movie. Andrea Gianetti will supervise the production for Sony Pictures Entertainment while Marza will create the titles for the film. Fowler and Miller had worked together in "Gopher Broke," a short animated film which won the Oscar in 2005. The two are also currently producing "The Goon."
There Were Changes Made In The Original Plan
A report that came out in 2014 indicated that "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie will be written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux. Apparently, this original plan was shelved in favor of the new set of screenplay writers. But Marza was one of the original co-producers and was retained in the current film production.
At that time, Masanao Maeda, Marza CEO said that the prospect of bringing the character to the big screen is thrilling. Sonic, the hedgehog has been portrayed in dozens of adventures but only on the small screen. "We're confident that this collaboration will bring a fresh take to Sonic, while still capturing everything that the fans love about him," said Maeda at that time.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is now co-producing the live-action animated movie with Marza, a Japanese CG animation production company. Fans of Sonic the hedgehog will want to see the movie teaser below.
