'Civilization 6' Guide: How To Win The Game Without Waging A War

Civilization 6 is one of the hottest games today with over 1 million copies less than a month of its release. We've showed you enough tips and tricks to get you ahead of the Four Victory types. This time, we have come up with new ways for you to win the game. Is it possible to beat the Civilization 6 without participating in a war?

Civilization 6's design strongly encourages the use of military units as a means to victory. In fact the most obvious militaristic victory condition is domination obliging the player to capture all rival capital cities through participating in a war.

Knowing that Civilization 6 is a numbers game, it's important to keep in mind that the more cities you own and the more capitals you generate, the more religion, culture, science, gold and military units you acquire. However, changing some of the rules allows you to win the game without fighting a war.

Civilization 6 Guide: Changing Your Settings Lets You Win Without War

Polygon's Collin Campbell decided to try out this theory and thankfully he was pretty successful at it. If you opt to be a pacifist in the game, there are two things you should always remember: disable barbarians and deactivate the domination victory condition.

Barbarians encourages players to build military units early on in the game clearing their desired land mass by destroying enemies. Leaving their encampments alone would spell out bigger danger if you choose non-violence.

Disabling the domination victory condition seeks more peaceful routes to victory in Civilization 6 decreasing military aggressiveness from the enemies. However, turning off this victory type does not disable combat and war.

Civilization 6 Guide: Build Your City In The Island Map

Islands are often isolated in the earlier part of the game. Picking the island map wards off early declarations of war from nearby neighbors and provides a natural border giving you more control over your land. Sharing a continent with some civilizations will propagate war at some point in time. As much as possible staying in the Emperor level gives you a much safer gameplay in Civilization 6 should you want to survive the game without participating in a war.

Make Sure To Keep Your Military Forces Strong

Along the way, there will be AI's that attempt to stir up conflict and attack your city. It's important to establish a strong military base early in the game. This will keep out any AI's looking for a weak rival to defeat. Always stay up to date with military cores by keeping the units updated and the city protected.

Do Not Expand Towards Enemies

An obvious rule to keep in mind is never to intimidate enemies by trying to encroach their territory. Do not expand too rapidly because some civs will see that as a problem and it might irritate them. You will have to continually threaten them with your military forces to calm them down defeating your purpose to win the game as a pacifist. Instead of expanding your base, try to enlarge your pool of connections by being friendly to other civs.

Resort To Cultural Or Religious Victory

There are also other ways to win the game without getting anyone killed. Earning the Religious or Cultural Victory gives you an advantage to scour off enemies that try to get in your zone. In Civilization 6, it might prove harder to earn both victories while keeping anyone unharmed but it can also be worth your try.
