How Did The Darkest Dungeon Sell 1 Million Copies?

Darkest Dungeon is a gothic RPG game which has become one of the breakout games in various platforms. Developed by Red Hook Studios, the game has recently announced that it has hit the groundbreaking 1 million copies sold. The team revealed how it reached that number.

In some sort of an 'open letter' thanking those who have supported and bought the game, Red Hook Studios gave a breakdown how they were able to reach the number. They credited a big part of their sales to Steam where they sold almost 94 percent of their total sales on that platform.

The game was released and was given early Access on Steam on February 3, 2015. Within 24 hours, the game had sold an unbelievable 50,000 copies. The developers recounted that everybody in the studio could not believe what had transpired.

On January 19, 2016, Darkest Dungeon was released on the PC and Mac and brought the game to GOG. The game also made decent sales on the PS4 and the PS Vita when it debuted on September 11, 2016. According to the article, the game had sold 50,000 copies on the platform. They were quick to defend, however, that the recent releases of the PS4 Pro and PS VR have an effect on that.

The major market of the game is still the United States, but there are also other countries where the game did well. The Top 10 countries which are the top markets for Darkest Dungeon include Russia, Germany, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, Poland, and South Korea.

The developers also announced that they have finished adding or supporting to the game. However, they also confirmed that they are creating a new game after the same mold as Darkest Dungeon.

Aside from Steam, Darkest Dungeon is also available on PlayStation Network, CDP.pl, GOG, Apple OSX App Store, SoftClub, Nuuvem, and Humble Store.
