Audi has just completed its A5 family with the new Audi A5 Cabriolet. A convertible version of the A5, with an elegant design, strong shoulder and steeply raked rear window, the car strongly shows off the Audi trademark.
New signature LED headlights have been added up front and still have their multi line grille. The A5 has seating space for 4 persons. The roof of this Audi only takes 15 seconds to fold and just 18 seconds to raise.
Unlike other convertibles, the Audi enables the roof to be folded or raised even when the car is moving and can be done with speeds of up to 31 miles per hour. This convenient feature allows the driver to raise the roof when it suddenly rains without having the need to put the car first to a stop.
The Audi A5 Cabriolet comes in either a 2.0 or 3.0 liter with diesel or petrol options. The car comes in Quattro or front-wheel drivetrains and has options for both automatic and manual transmissions.
The Cabriolet uses the latest a five-link independent suspension that is also used in the Coupe version. It has adaptive dampers and the car can be maneuvered by an electromechanical power steering system.
Audi claims that the sills have been reinforced and additional struts in the body help maintain a driving experience similar to the coupe version. The front wheel drive 2.0 TDi version of the A5 only weights 1,690 kilograms, which is 40 kilos lighter than the old car.
There are four engine options available once launched, a 249bhp 2.0 TFSI petrol, a 349bhp 3.0 TFSI, a 187bhp 2.0 TDi and a 3.0liter TDI that's packs 215bhp. The entry level 2.0 liter TDI scores a combined city and highway rating of 62.3 miles per gallon. The Quattro version runs on all four wheels and the automatic gets an eight-speed tiptronic gearbox as standard.
The cabin is spacious and provides a front shoulder room by 26mm and a rear leg room that can be extended by up to 18mm. The big boot has a storage capacity of 380 liters with the hood down. The rear seats can also fold down to give a 50:50 split for additional storage capacity.
Additional interior features are the Audi MM infotainment seven-inch monitor, a 12.3-inch screen that can display the virtual cockpit or can be used to replace the analog instruments.
To make driving easier, the Audi A5 Cabriolet is also equipped with assistance features such as adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous traffic jam assist, collision avoidance assist, park assist, rear cross traffic assist and traffic sign recognition system.
The Audi A5 Cabriolet is expected for delivery by March 2017.
