The Subaru Impreza is one of the best known creations of the Japanese automaker. However, despite having a plant in the U.S., the assembly of the popular vehicle has been done exclusively in Japan. That information would be something from the past as the company is set to roll-out its first proudly American-made 2017 Subaru Impreza.
The Preparation
In a report by Motor Trend, because of the high demand for the of Subaru vehicles in the U.S, the parent company of Subaru, Fuji Heavy Industries (FJI) has decided to invest $1.3 billion in the Indiana plant to start the production of Imprezas. More than three years ago, the automaker started to re-equip their facility in Lafayette, Indiana in order to accommodate the creation of the fifth-generation Subaru Impreza as reported by Leftlane News.
"In a time when some manufacturers are moving work out of the United States, we're proud to be bringing Subaru Impreza production to the heartland of America," said Tom Easterday, Subaru Indiana's senior EVP. He also added that this move has allowed the company to offer more than a hundred jobs at the U.S. plant, even more so on its supplier that span across Indiana to another areas in the country.
Specs And Availability
The 2017 Subaru Impreza will come with a revised 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine. During launch, buyers can expect sedan and hatchback versions with CVT transmission. However, consumers interested in the manual five-speed transmission will have to wait until next year. The 2017 Subaru Impreza is yet to arrive in the coming weeks but interested buyers can already pre-order the unit now.
