Strategic alliances in the auto industry seem to be the trend nowadays as Toyota and Mazda are said to be teaming up for future projects. Will two of the biggest names in Japan's auto industry be introducing an electric car in the future?
The Toyota-Mazda Talks Confirmation
Hybrid Cars reported that the carmakers, (Mazda and Toyota) are thinking about 10 possible projects where they can team up. The same report stated that the executive vice president of Mazda, Akira Marumoto said that the discussions have been ongoing since last year. However, when asked about providing more details regarding expanding ties the two companies have in their hybrid systems and compact car production in Mexico, he declined to give more information.
What's Next For The Two Auto Giants?
It is not yet clear what the future holds for two of the most recognized brands in the auto industry since no further details have been announced regarding the talks that are going on between the two companies. However, according to the report from Automotive News, Toyota and Mazda's joint projects will be considered as one of the trends in the automotive industry of Japan wherein the largest companies are making use of alliance or means of acquisition for purposes of consolidation.
Toyota's Move And Response
In the same report, Automotive News has stated that earlier this year, Toyota has already bought the rest of Daihatsu Motor Company out and is now in the process of exploring the possibilities of a partnership with Suzuki Motor Corp. in research and development. Toyota also owns majority of the shares in Hino Motors Ltd., and it also holds the largest share in Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru as well as shares in Isuzu Motors Ltd. As for Mazda's partnership, a Toyota representative declined to comment when asked.
