Sony is about to release the PlaySation 4 Pro, a brand new version of its successful PlayStation 4 game console.
PlayStation 4 Pro
The PlayStation 4 Pro console is set to launch on Thursday, Nov. 10, for a $399 price tag. In terms of performance, the upcoming game console is a serious upgrade from the original PS4. Tech experts believe that Sony's new PlayStation 4 Pro will be able of prettier graphics, much higher resolutions and faster load times.
Internally, the PlayStation 4 Pro is slightly different from the current PS4 and this is what will give it a pretty big jump in power. The upcoming game console will come with support for high dynamic range (or HDR) and 4K resolution on TVs that support them. Because the new PS 4 Pro comes with more graphics processing power, on the new console both traditional and virtual reality games can perform and look better.
According to Sony, PS4 Pro's advanced graphics processor unit (AGP) incorporates some fully custom hardware innovations and many features from AMD's latest 'Polaris' architecture. It's AGP is considerably more powerful than the GPU included in the standard PS4. A 1 TB hard drive also ensures a pretty large internal storage capacity.
According to Business Insider, even though Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro is more powerful, this is just a technical upgrade and the console is not getting any exclusive games. The PlayStation 4 Pro is mainly catering to gamers who own 4K televisions. The 4K technology is the next step after HD.
The PS 4 Pro is identical functionally to the original PlayStation 4 that has been launched in 2013, as well as to the newer and slimmer PlayStation 4 launched this year. The PS4 Pro's upped processing power enables developers to tap into far more demanding visual features. Aside from the support for 4K rendering, this includes smoother or more stable framerates, advanced graphics features and more.
This means that even those who do not own a 4K TV can find some benefits to the PlayStation 4 Pro. Because of using the processing power of the PlayStation 4 Pro for more than upping the resolution, games on standard high-definition TV can run faster and smoother than on a standard PlayStation 4. The increased power of the PS 4 Pro can be used for other things that could have a major impact in the overall gaming experience.
Games For PS 4 Pro
Sony said that it will enhance a few dozen games for use on the PlayStation 4 Pro at launch. In total, by the end of 2016, over 45 games will appear on the Pro in updated form. Among them are included still unreleased game titles like "Killing Floor 2," "Watch Dogs 2," "Final Fantasy XV," and "The Last Guardian."
For instance, according to PlayStation's official blog, "Killing Floor 2" is an action-packed, cooperative shooter. The game will come with a unique blend of weaponry and perk classes, terrifying enemies and the most advanced gore system ever created. But what truly allowed Sony to take visuals in "Killing Floor 2" to the next level of fidelity was the processing power of the upcoming PS4 Pro. Performance, memory and resolution are the critical ways the PS4 Pro enhances "Killing Floor 2."
