Samsung Gear S3 Release Date And Price Announced, Pre-Orders Commence

The official release date and price of the latest of Samsung's smartwatch devices have already been announced.

The Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch was announced in August during the IFA event in Berlin. It took around 60 days before the South Korean company finally made the price and release date known. The Gear S3 will drop on Nov. 18 in the United States. Interested parties can pre-order starting Nov. 6.

Where to buy?

The press release cited by CNet also mentioned that the smarwatches will be available at Amazon, Best Buy, Macy's and Samsung's official website. They can also be purchased from "participating wireless providers" including T-Mobile and Verizon.

Classic vs Frontier

The Gear S3 comes in two main variations - Frontier and Classic. Another variant is the Gear S3 Frontier LTE.

The Frontier and Classic editions of the gear S3 will sport an AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass SR+. All three will have 786MB of RAM and are IP68 water-resistant. They also support GPS.

The Frontier is designed for fitness buffs. Samsung has already released the Gear Fit 2 which is more of a fitness tracker. The Gear S3 Frontier is a sporty-looking smartwatch that does more than just tell the time.

The Classic is the classier version of the Gear S3. If the Frontier is known for its rugged look, the Gear S3 Classic is designed for dressing up. Basically, the main difference between the Classic and Frontier smartwatches is their appearance.

Price

The Samsung Gear S3 will sell for $350 at AT&T and probably in other stores, as well. In the U.K., the price of the Samsung Gear S3 was said to be £349. A quick computation puts it at a little over $430 per watch.

The Gear S3 is not meant to replace the S2 as the company claims. However, the latest wearable tech from Samsung is similar to the S2 in terms of looks. The S3 is a little bit larger, though. Like the S2, the Gear S3 will use the spinning bezel mechanism that has become popular with its users.
