The Sony PS4 Pro is due to come out in a few days from now and at least a year ahead of the Xbox Scorpio. However, is its specs good enough or should gamers wait for Microsoft's upcoming game platform instead?
PS4 Pro General Specs
The PS4 Pro will have customized main processor from AMD. The x86-64 CPU "Jaguar" is using the Polaris architecture that can run 8 cores at a clocked speed of 2.1GHz instead of the previous 1.6GHz, according to the official PlayStation site. GPU has capacity has been increased by more than a hundred percent with 36 GCN (Graphic Core Next) compute units running at 911MHz. Memory is still using 8GB of GDDR5 only the Pro is running it at 218 GB per second.
The PS4 Pro Against Xbox Project Scorpio
The Microsoft Xbox One has a considerable disadvantage against the PlayStation 4. However, the situation seemed to have been reversed with the Xbox Project Scorpio. For one thing the PS4 Pro does not support 4K native support. Sony defended this omission by pointing out that a lot of movies and videos are available for streaming online.
Project Scorpio however, will offer 4K native support which means that it has a technological advantage over the PS4 Pro in this area. When it comes to processing power, Scorpio will reportedly have eight cores running at an upclocked Jaguar. GPU is rumored to have around 60 GCN compute units running at a maximum 850MHz. There also speculations that the Scorpio will have 12GB GDDR5 Memory that runs at more than 320GB per second in terms of bandwidth, according to Eurogamer.
If the Scorpio specs are true, this will mean that it has the technological upper hand compared to the PS4 Pro. Industry observers are amazed that Microsoft has managed to turn the scale to its favor. One advantage that Sony has right now is that the PS4 Pro is available this year while Project Scorpio will only come out in late 2017. The PS4 Pro is scheduled to come out on November 10, 2016.
