Google has closed its standalone movie site Showtimes, rolling some of the functionality directly into its main search portal. The website, which was characterized as being Google´s place where people could search show times, films and cinemas on a specific date and near a particular location, now shows a 404 error if anyone tries to visit it.
The Movie Site Wasn't Good At All
Fortunately, this doesn't mean the complete end of the movie site, giving the fact that you´ll still be able to get showtimes from Google based on your location and keep enjoying this great service. All you have to do is to write any movie title you want to watch; followed by the word "showtimes", and then it will be showed the nearby locations and showtimes of the film you chose.
According to Tech Crunch, Google´s movie site doesn't have had any difference now that when it first went live in some form in 2005. Apparently, it never updated much beyond its interface based around
Some Directions For Fans
As reported by Digitial Trends, is likely that services as the Google´s movie site close over the next few years, considering that the search giant shifts into showing information in search results, rather than with detailed websites. In addition to the 404 error when you enter the site, an "About" page for the site in the U.K. provides some directions for its fans
"Google Showtimes was discontinued on 1 November 2016. You can now discover show times on the search results page by searching for the name of the movie that you want to see or try searching for the word 'movies' to discover what's in cinemas," says the page.
