Pokemon Sun and Moon introduces a special move called the Z-move which boosts a Pokemon's move as much as three times. However, there are certain conditions to meet before you can utilize this unique move.
First of all, Z-move can only be used by a Pokemon once every battle it encounters. But before you get excited, it's not as easy as it sounds. The Pokemon Sun and Moon official site said that you should couple the Z-move with the right item. The right item in question is the Z-Crystal.
"There are two conditions for performing Z-Moves: a Pokémon must learn a move of the same type as a Z-Crystal, and it must be holding the corresponding Z-Crystal," the site mentioned.
The defense that get 2X the boost when using the Z-move include Snatch, Switcheroo, Trick, Ally Switch, Aromatic Mist, Imprison, Magic Coat, Powder, and Captivate.
The attacks that get 2X the boost with Z-move include Heal Block, Psycho Shift, and Mirror Move. However, the attack that receives the biggest boost is Splash Attack which becomes three times more powerful than the original.
Although the boost was useless when used by Magikarp, Pokemon Sun and Moon are already theorizing that the Splash attack can be very lethal when used by other Pokemon, such as Poliwrath, Mimikyu, Solgaleo, and Lunala.
Other moves that receives a benefit from Z-move include the Curse which restores the HP to 100% for Ghost-type Pokemon, Aromatherapy, Belly Drum, Conversion 2, Heal Bell, Haze, Mist, Refresh, Spite, Stockpile, and Psych Up each restores the HP back to 100 percent.
Other moves increase in accuracy and evasiveness when you apply the Z-move while others reset the user's stats. Other moves get a boost one level up while others don't get anything at all. Some of the moves that do not get a benefit from Z-move include Assist, Healing Wish, Lunar Dance, and Metronome.
