Genetically Modified Food Isn’t As Bad As People Think

People are unaware that a number of the food eaten now are genetically modified. Many people though have an aversion for genetically modified food. Genetically modified food isn't as bad as people think, and scientists explain why.

There are people who know that genetically modified food is safe to eat and are aware that they are eating it. Many are still unaware of it, and have notions about genetically modified food. One such notion is that genetically modified food can cause autism, which has not been proven yet.

Brandon McFadden, a UF/IFAS Associate Professor of Food and Resource Economics said that Science should make it easier for people to understand what genetically modified food is about. People have a different view of what they are as against what Science actually shows, he noted.

Many of the genetically modified foods are made in such a way that they might be able to have traits that they don't naturally have. That is why there are crops that can resist drought, or else those that are more resistant to diseases. Most people think genetically modified food is altered in such a way that it is no longer natural. However, that is not how genetically modified food is.

There is a study that shows that as much as 88 percent of those who know what genetically modified food is say it is safe to eat. Only 37 percent of the average person, however, say that it is safe to eat, according to the IFAS News. This shows that there is still a need to make people aware of what genetically modified food is.

The same has been found when it comes to global warming. People who are aware about what global warming is would have fewer preconceived notions about it than those who are not fully versed in it, as Science Daily notes. This is especially since many people are still confused about the terminologies used in the study of global warming.

It is clear that many people still need to know what is actually being said by Science about genetically modified food and global warming. Genetically modified food isn't as bad as people think, especially if people know more about it. Climate change is posing much risk on humans, as there is a danger of genetic changes as well caused by it.
