LG's Optimus G Pro Features 5.5-inch Screen And Curved Glass Display

LG's new Optimus G Pro is slated for release in late February, but the company has not said whether or not it will only be available outside Korea. The new device features a 5.5-inch display with a curved glass front, which LG says will give the screen a '2.5-D' effect. This screen size puts it in the same category as Samsung's Note II, which LG plans to directly compete with using the Optimus.

One day after a teaser video posted on its Facebook, LG released photos of the new device, which will have a full 1080p HD screen and a quad-core processor (probably the Snapdragon S4 Pro). The company's press release announced that it had slimmed the bezel on either side of the display to offset the added bulk of its curved screen, but aside from the enlarged display and a 3,140mAh battery, it sports the same specs as an already-announced Optimus G Pro.

In January, LG's biggest leak came out of Japan: NTT DoCoMo, a local carrier, confirmed a 5-inch, 1080p Optimus G Pro as part of its spring device lineup, Engadget reported. It features a 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, a 3,000Ah battery, and runs Android's Jelly Bean 4.1. It also has the same 2GB of RAM and 13-megapixel camera as the 5.5-inch version. For users looking to expand, there is a microSD slot on top of 32GB of built-in storage.

The device will come in either "platinum white" or "indigo black" and has a leg up on the Samsung Galaxy Note II in the screen resolution department; the Note II is 720p. GottaBeMobile says that some other key differences include the lack of a stylus for the Optimus and its focus on being a smartphone, whereas the Galaxy Note fits better into the phablet category.

The timing of the teaser and leaks seem to suggest that LG's Optimus G Pro will make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona, TechSpot reports.

The LG Optimus G currently available in the US has a 720p display and is offered by carriers AT&T and Sprint.
