EA CFO Blake Jorgensen talks about their collaboration with the Nintendo Switch and the game title it would release for the console. Along with that, he praised the Switch as an interesting console but expressed that he is quite anxious at the same time.
Speaking at the recent UBS Global Technology Conference, Jorgensen said that his company is excited about its collaboration with the Nintendo Switch. He also said that they are bringing one of their most popular game title to the console. On the other hand, he said that they are not sure whether the Switch will be successful or not.
"We’re excited for Nintendo, it’s an interesting device,” said Jorgensen. “But I can’t yet predict how broad it’s going to be, and [if people will] be interested in a portable device alongside their regular portable device that they have," the CFO said.
As for the game title they are going to release on the Nintendo Switch, EA did not offer any more details except that the game title will be from an existing franchise and not an entirely new one. He also added that Nintendo has already announced EA will be supporting one to two games in the console but they have not disclosed anything about it. He assured the audience that it is already in the works and it will be one of their bigger games.
EA's anxiety about the success of the Nintendo Switch is understandable since the games it released on the Wii U had less than stellar performance in terms of sales. Because of that, the game company stopped creating games for that platform since 2013.
Its step to release a popular and familiar game on the Nintendo Switch is a good move for EA just to test the waters first. More details about the Nintendo Switch will be revealed on January 12.
