A well-loved character from "The Young and the Restless," Adam Newman, has officially been confirmed by the show's head writer to not be coming back following the exit of his portrayer, Justin Hartley. Is Adam Newman out for good? The Y&R head writer and co-executive producer Sally Sussman talks about the real score.
No More Adam Newman
"The Young and the Restless" head writer Sally Sussman has officially debunked all rumors pertaining to the return of Justin Hartley as Adam Newman. In an interview with TV Insider, Sussman shed light on the character's real score - Adam Newman is truly dead after the cabin explosion. Hartley's turn for the character portrayal capped off a few months ago and there had been rumors that he might be making a comeback, or at least cameo appearances.
On Hiatus Only
When asked about how soon Christian's true paternity will be revealed, Sussman told the publication: "I'm not playing it at all. Adam is off the show. And Justin Hartley will never be back. He's too successful now. He's gone." Further asked about a possible recast, the writer admitted that there is no need for it as of now. She implied that Adam will just be on hiatus, and he will surely be coming back soon.
Nick Remains To Believe A Lie
As the writer went on with the conversation, she was able to spill a revelation about the storyline of Christian Newman. She said: "I'm not looking to bring that character back nor do I want to do a paternity reveal involving a character who is off-camera." Hence, Nick, played by Joshua Morrow, will remain believing that Christian is his and it might take years before he is to know, referring to "Days of Our Lives'" Michael Horton paternity reveal that took 10 years.
"The Young and the Restless" airs Mondays thru Fridays at 12:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
