Sony could be testing out a handset with some unbelievable specs. On an HTML5 Test website, which tells you the capabilities of your browser and its ability to use HTML5 features, someone ran a test using an 'unidentified device' running Android 4.2. The device was labeled C6802 and had a 1080p resolution display, which lends credence to some rumors that a Sony phablet is in the works — and these could be the results from it.
Last October, Randomuser, a poster on the Esato forums, claimed that Sony's new phablet would be called the 'Togari,' and would run a Snapdragon 800 processor alongside the next-generation Adreno 330 graphics processor. Rumor has it that it would have a 6.44-inch screen and could be Sony's response to Samsung's Galaxy Note, Tech2 reports.
Its C6802 label means that the 'Togari', unlike several of Sony's recent mid- and low-range smartphones, might even outclass the Xperia Z (C660X), which the company debuted at CES. There is also the possibility that someone could be faking their user agent.
Randomuser also alleged that the Togari would have a massive 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera on the back, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a 3500mAh battery and a remote control function that can work with Bravia TVs. Japan Display Inc, which will reportedly manufacture the screens with OptiContrast technology, has made screens with 2560 x 1600 resolution displays, so while this could be more than idle speculation, ExperiaBlog stresses that for now, this is just a rumor.
Sony made a splash at CES 2013 already earlier this year with its Xperia Z, a phablet with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 2Gb of RAM and a screen with 1080p resolution. Its previous foray into the smartphone arena left the Japanese giant in the dust when it insisted that single- and dual-core phones would do fine against the competition. (They didn't.)
But the high-end Xperia Z, one of the shining stars of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013, comes loaded with features, including a stamina mode that shuts down background apps when the screen is off and it's waterproof. The Xperia Z will hit stores in March, a month and a half ahead of its competition.
