Daisuke Ashihara's "World Trigger" manga would be on an indefinite hiatus. The editorial staff of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced earlier this week that the manga would be taking a break for a while due to Ashihara's health issues.
"World Trigger" previously announced it would not be on the 50th issue of the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine but would continue on the 51st. The latest announcement, however, did not give a return date for the manga according to Anime News Network. The staff assured they will update fans for its possible return in future issues of the magazine.
Ashihara has been taking several week-long breaks due to illness since the author was treated with cervical spondylosis in September 2014. Cervical spondylosis, also called cervical osteoarthritis or neck arthritis, is a condition affecting the joints and discs in the neck. It may be developed from a wear and tear of the cartilage and bones in the cervical spine.
"World Trigger" has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 2013. The manga is currently in chapter 164. An anime series with 73 episodes was produced by Toei Animation which aired from October 2014 to April 2016
In a city where monsters called neighbors appear from a different world through gates, young border agent Osamu Mikumo meets a neighbor in the form of a child Yuma Kuga. Osamu has low trion levels but compensates his lack of ability with his brain. He meets and befriends Yuma, a neighbor who came to the human world to find a cure to his condition. Aside from his superior athletic ability, Yuma has a side effect which tells him if a person is lying.
Osamu becomes the leader of Team Mikumo composed of Yuma and Chika Amatori, Osamu's childhood friend who always attracts neighbors due to her huge trion level. She has a side effect which makes her feel the presence of nearby Trion Soldiers or hide her own presence from them.
