The Greatest Of All Time made a rare appearance last night to enshrine multiple All Star, Olympic Gold Medalist, and soon to be MVP Russell Westbrook to Oklahoma Hall Of Fame.
What Makes Russell Westbrook Great?
There are a lot of ways to describe the dynamite-like point guard of Oklahoma City Thunder. However, if we are going to summarize them and rank it, he is described as a "beast." He is often compared to the great Allen Iverson because of their relentlessness, heart and passion. Do not be fooled by his crazy fashion style because once he's on the court, he will eat you alive. He is a vicious competitor and doesn't know how to back down.
Westbrook is not your ordinary point guard. He is more of a combo guard. Westbrooks athleticism is like LeBron James, they used it effectively, both offense and defense. He is currently averaging 31.8 points , 9.8 assists and 9.5 rebounds. He's like a throwback player during the era of the bad boy Pistons. He is unapologetic and doesn't make any excuses with his actions once he steps on the court. Russ is currently on the top 3 list of MVP candidates; and he sure deserves it.
The GOAT Appreciates The Game Of Westbrook
Michael Jordan and Russell Westbrook have a connection already since Russ is one of the players who endorses the Jordan brand. The GOAT shared his thoughts on what he thinks about Russell Westbrook. "I am truly a fan of his, when I watch him play, I see a lot of resemblance of his passion for the game of basketball, the way I played the game of basketball," MJ said. Then he lauded Russ for his sense of loyalty. "Another thing you guys should be proud of is the sense of loyalty this kid has shown," Jordan ended.
Westbrook Responds To The GOAT
Although Russ is highly competitive, he appreciates the players before him, especially the GOAT. "Michael's obviously the best that ever played the game," Westbrook said. "He's done so many things for the game of basketball, so many ways and broken so many barriers for guys like myself to be able to go out and compete at a high level, so it means a lot in that aspect. Off the court, he's carried a great brand. It's something I eventually want to do when I'm done," he said.
Kevin Durant's Departure And What It Meant To Russ
The former MVP's departure in Oklahoma is bitter-sweet. Some fans are okay with Kevin Durant's decision, but most of the fans hate him for variety of reasons. They hated Durant's decision because, not only did he leave their team but joined their rival Golden State Warriors. Kevin Durant even said that "it's more fun playing" in the Bay Area than in Oklahoma; which triggered the fans to hate him all the more. Russ is also fed up with the same questions about him and Kevin. I don't know who's getting the better part after the departure but one thing is for sure, Russ is having a career season.
