104-Year-Old Woman 'Lies' About Age on Facebook

A 104-year-old woman has "lied" about her age on Facebook.

Marguerite Joseph of Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich. set up a Facebook account two years ago with the help of her granddaughter, Gail Marlow. Marlow, however, indicated that when she tried to input her grandmother's birth year as 1908, Facebook changed it to 1928. As a result, Joseph has not appeared on the site with her real age.

"Every time I tried to change the settings to the right year, Facebook always came back with an unknown error message and would send us right back to a year she wasn't born in," Marlow tells WDIV. "I would love to see her real age on Facebook. I mean in April she's going to be 105. It's special."

Joseph is legally blind and hard of hearing, so Marlow reads and responds to her Facebook messages. She says she uses the site primarily to communicate with family members, who are located throughout the country. She currently has 109 friends and has uploaded 84 pictures.

"I cherish this time we spend together," Marlow says. "She gets that we're on the Internet; she gets that we're talking to relatives. Does she understand social media? Probably not."

Marlow was so disappointed in the Facebook error that she sent several messages to the company's CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who never responded. Joseph, however, did allude to the error in her Facebook profile.

"I was actually born on April 19, 1908 which makes me 102 years old but Facebook wouldn't let me enter in a date that goes back that far," the post reads. "I am a wealth of knowledge and history and love to tell my stories."

In response to the error, a spokesperson from Facebook issued an apology and stated that it would work to correct the problem.

"We've recently discovered an issue whereby some Facebook users may be unable to enter a birthday before 1910," the company told the Huffington Post. "We are working on a fix for this and we apologize for the inconvenience."
