Android-Compatible Nikon D7100 Set For March Release

Nikon Inc. announced a new addition to its camera line, the Nikon D7100 HD-SLR. The camera offers DX-format image quality and is capable of recording high-definition motion video.

The Nikon D7100 carries many impressive features, including a 24.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, Nikon's trademark 51-point AF system and even wireless remote control. Nikon is keeping up with photography innovation with the understanding that advanced technology is gravitating away from the optical low pass filer (OLPF).

The new CMOS sensor results in optimum image quality for remarkably crisp, detailed photos and high-definition video.

"Solidifying Nikon's ongoing commitment to the DX-format D-SLR customer, the innovative D7100 provides new ways for photographers to capture their creative vision with incredible detail and precision, whether through still images or HD videos," said Bo Kajiwara, vice president of marketing, planning and customer experience at Nikon Inc.

With photography enthusiasts and advanced users in mind, Nikon designed the D7100 to deliver reliability and performance. For challenging conditions where the subjects are in motion, such as sporting events, the camera has an ISO range of 100-6400. For the advanced user, Nikon offers its 51-Point AF System for vivid color and sharp details as well as rapid response and operation with the ability to shoot six frames-per-second (sps). Video can be recorded at 1080/30p for HD quality playback on most HDTVs.

"The D7100 blends the best creative features with advanced-level functionality to give the enthusiast exactly what they want — and that's a great shooting experience before, during and after capture, from shooting to sharing," said Kajiwara.

A key feature of the Nikon D7100 is an optional WU-1a Wireless Remote Adapter. This lets users share images to a mobile device, transfer photos from a distance of up to 49 feet and remotely control the camera. For Android smartphones and tablets, the Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility can be downloaded for free from Google Play.

Nikon Inc. in 2012 celebrated a milestone in its history of providing superior optics for 80 years and producing over 75 million NIKKOR lenses. The Nikon D7100 will be available in March with a retail price of $1,599.95 (MSRP).
