Samsung Galaxy S4: Will The Switch From Exynos 5 To Snapdragon 600 Affect Sales?

Just when Samsung began to prepare for the March 14 debut of the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphones, new information claims that the device will no longer feature Samsung's own Exynos Octa 5 processor. Samsung is switching the device's processor to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 instead, causing a possible release date delay that may hurt sales.

It's rumored that due to power consumption and overheating issues with the Exynos chipset, Samsung has chosen to remove the faulty chip from its smartphones. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 is featured in the newly released HTC One and the benchmark tests prove the processor is excellent in terms of speed.

Digital Times reported on Wednesday that "the size of the chip and the calorific value is greater than what the power consumption is" and this is why Samsung opted for the Snapdragon 600.

This coincides with a recent report from Financial Anaylist Gus Richard this week, "We believe the S4 is being delayed primarily due to power issues with the company's eight-core Exynos Octa [...] we believe the company is likely to shift more to external sources," said Richard.

According to Sammobile, Samsung was experiencing issues with another processer, the Exynos 5450. quad-core variant and "The only problem the octa-core processor by Samsung isn't LTE enabled which will cost Samsung extra parts space inside the Galaxy S4. There's a possibility for Samsung to use the octa-core processor in the NON-LTE Galaxy S4 devices," reports Sammobile.

This major change in specs is not going over well with some fans of the Galaxy S series flagship. Many were looking forward to seeing the Exynos chipset featured in the Samsung Galaxy S4, whether it was the quad-core or octa-core variant. The possibility of the release date getting pushed back may also affect sales.
