Samsung's long-awaited Galaxy S4 is officially slated to receive a March 14 debut at the Korean company's event in Manhattan.
The invitation image reiterates that the event is in New York, says that it is "ready 4 the show" and invites people to "come and meet the next Galaxy." The event is scheduled to start at 7 PM EST. Many believe that instead of revealing the phone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Samsung wanted the spotlight at its own solo event. Hey, it worked for HTC.
Samsung tweeted the confirmation this morning. The phone is expected to ship starting early April, first to Europe and Asia, and then to the USA in May. "We don't comment on rumors or speculation," a Samsung representative told CNET.
What do we expect to see from the Galaxy S4?
The device has seen numerous tweaks and hardware changes over the last few weeks — rather than the feverishly-rumored 8-core EXYNOS processor, which allegedly overheats and consumes too much power to be practical in a smartphone, Samsung may be switching to Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 or the Snapdragon 600 1.9GHz chip.
Samsung's Galaxy S4 will also supposedly use full HD SoLux displays rather than the AMOLED screen because of manufacturing issues, although nothing has been confirmed.
Expert Reviews suggests the price of the S4 could be in the $700+ range and feature wireless charging functionality much like the Nokia 920. It would use a GT-I9500 camera, weighing in at 13 megapixels , as evidenced by a picture posted online but quickly taken down by a mysterious Google+ user. Samsung is also reportedly developing the Samsung Orb, which can take and stitch together images into 3D panorama photos.
It is important to keep in mind that until confirmation of its specs, this is all speculation and rumor. Samsung has led its fans on wild goose chases before, with its "leaked" Galaxy S3 photo and misinformation campaign.
The latest (mostly uncontested) rumored specs are:
- 4.99" full HD display (either SoLux or SuperAMOLED)
- 13-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of shooting 1080p video
- 2-megapixel front-facing camera capable of shooting 720p video
- 2GB RAM
- Home button
- Plastic back and aluminum sides
- Removable battery
- 16, 32 and 64GB internal storage options
- Android 4.2.2 out of the box
