They say all things are possible when the mind is put into it. Others find this quite difficult to believe. But when Alfa Romeo Giulia sets fastest Silverstone lap time in a blindfolded run, the saying was proven to be true.
A Full Blindfolded Lap In One Minute And 44.3 Seconds
65 years ago, a world record was set in Silverstone using an Alfa Romeo 159 with an Italian F1 World Champion named Nino Farina behind its wheel. Now the youngest Briton to join the Le Mans 24 Hours race, Ed Morris has set a new one. This time, the record was set in a blindfolded run. According to report from Carscoops, Nino's 1:44 time was the lap record in the British Grand Prix during his era. Morris, though clocking in at 1:44.3 still set a record given the fact that it was a blindfolded lap run.
The Blindfolded Alfa Romeo Giulia
Motor1 reported that two Alfa Romeo Giulias were used during the blindfolded run. The first one had all of its windows blacked out with vinyl while the other, driven by David Brise, followed closely behind giving instructions to the driver of the blindfolded Alfa Romeo Giulia (Morris). "I've driven hundreds of cars but never one with all windows blacked out. As a racing driver it's in your nature to push yourself and the car to its limits knowing the Alfa Romeo Giulia is packed with so many high-performance technologies really allowed us to have complete trust in it and focus on setting a record," said Morris.
How It Was Done
According to Motor1, it only took two days of practice before the blindfolded run took place and the record was set. It was also mentioned in the same report that even if the time wasn't taken as a factor, the run would have still been a record given the fact that it was the first time something like this ever took place.
