Zynga Closing Offices: Users Just Aren't Annoying Their Friends Enough

Social gaming giant Zynga is closing offices around the country.

The company is shuttering four of its offices, three of which are being consolidated into other offices, while one is being closed outright. Zynga made the announcement on its blog Monday.

Two of the offices are in Texas, with the McKinney office moving into nearby Dallas. The company is also closing its downtown Austin office, consolidating it into its North Austin location. Zynga is also consolidating its New York offices into its New York City mobile studio. The Baltimore office is also closing, though “we were able to relocate everyone in the Baltimore office who requested a transfer, and the overall impact of the consolidations on our team is minimal."

The company claims the reason for the closings is “an effort to leverage resources as we focus on creating franchises and driving profitability.”

Zynga’s previous blogpost celebrated the first birthday of its wildly popular Draw Something game, which to date has been downloaded over 100 million times (leading to “a library of 11 million Lady Gaga drawings”).

What does this mean for the Zynga world? Will this affect my Farmville output?

Chances are, no. As Zynga COO David Ko writes on the blog, “we still have a lot of work to do, but I’m confident that we’re on the right path to deliver on the potential of Zynga.”
