"Call the Midwife" is a BBC One drama set during the 50's and the 60's and it has been renewed for three more seasons -- season 7, 8, and 9. Dubbed as the next "Downton Abbey," the series which airs on PBS Stateside will also have a Christmas episode for each season.

"Call the Midwife" season 6 is scheduled to air in early 2017 and will continue to feature the midwives in East End London as they continue to do their duty. Heidi Thomas will remain to be the head writer and the showrunner for the upcoming season, while Neal Street will act as the executive producer.
The show will continue to portray the life of the medical community in a rapidly changing country. Set during a period when Britain faced numerous challenges, there is a lot to be portrayed on screen. According to Thomas, there is "so much rich material -- medical, social, and emotional -- to be explored."

Considered to be one of the best medical dramas in the U.S. and the U.K., "Call the Midwife" BBC One ordered three more seasons with eight episodes and a Christmas special for each installment. The series is based on the memoirs of the real nurse Jennifer Worth, and seeing more episodes unfold would definitely be a treat for fans of this British series.

"Call the Midwife" will be back on television for its holiday episode on Dec. 25. The story will take place in South Africa's Eastern Cape as the residents of the convent receive a call for help from a mission hospital in the area. Hope Clinic is a small hospital which lacks everything from funding to people to reliable water supply. On top of that, it is on the brink of closure which is quite a pity as there are so many patients who need help.
"Call the Midwife" season 6 will premiere on BBC One in January 2017.
