Xiaomi Mi 5c Versus HTC 10 Evo Bolt: Which Is Better?

The HTC 10 Evo (Bolt) was just released this month and is currently hot right now in the tech market. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 5c is rumored to be released this 12th of December and is highly anticipated due to its high-end specs and affordable price. Though the Xiaomi Mi 5c has not yet been officially introduced to the public, there are already "confirmed" specs and features regarding this device. Now, let's try to compare the two phones and see which is better.

HTC 10 Evo (Bolt) versus Xiaomi Mi 5c

Network. : Xiaomi Mi 5c

Body. Body dimensions of the HTC Bolt is 153.6 x 77.3 x 8.1 mm and weight is 174 g. For the Xiaomi Mi 5c, there is no solid information yet regarding its body dimensions and weight. However, tech enthusiasts believe that its body weight won't be far from its predecessors. With this being said, I will make this round a tie.

Display. The display type, size, and resolution of the HTC Bolt is Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors, 5.5 inches, and 1440 x 2560 pixels. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 5c's is IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors, 5.2 inches, and 1920 x 1080 pixels. If you've been following my articles for a while now, I prefer large screens. So this round goes to the HTC Bolt.

Platform. For HTC Bolt's OS, chipset, cpu, and GPU, it is Android OS, v7.0 (Nougat), Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810, Octa-core (4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A57), and Adreno 430. As for the Xiaomi Mi 5c, it's Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, Quad-core Mediatek SoC (2.2 GHz), and Adreno 530. I like my phone running fast and smooth, so I'm going to give this round to the Xiaomi Mi 5c.

Memory. The HTC Bolt's card slot and internal memory is microSD, up to 256 GB, and 32 GB, 3 GB RAM. While the Xiaomi Mi 5c is microSD, up to 128 GB, and 64 GB, 4 GB RAM. Regarding the RAM, some sources claim that the Xiaomi's RAM is only 3 GB while others claim it's 4 GB. However, until Xiaomi officially confirms its specs and features, let's stick with 4 GB RAM for now. Personally, I would choose higher RAM over storage space all the time. So this round goes to the Xiaomi Mi 5c.

Camera. Rear camera, front camera and video for the HTC Bolt are 16 MP, 8 MP, and 2160p@30fps, 720p@120fps. For the Xiaomi Mi 5c, rear camera is 16 MP, front camera is 8 MP, and video is unknown. Given that both phones have the same MP for rear and front camera, I will give this round to the HTC Bolt even though Xiaomi Mi 5c's video is unknown.

Battery. HTC Bolt's battery is 3200 mAh. Stand-by time is 480 hours and talk time is 23 hours. As for the Xiaomi Mi 5c, the only information known is that it will sport a Li-Ion battery. Aside from that, there is nothing.

But based on my experience with China gadgets, battery performance is kind of an issue that I always struggled with. So, if I will base it on my experience with China-made gadgets (even if many will say this is unfair or unjustified), I will give this win to the HTC Bolt.

Features. The HTC Bolt's features are Fingerprint, Accelerometer, Gyro, Proximity, Compass, and Fast Charging. On the other hand, the only confirmed feature of the Xiaomi Mi 5c is that it will feature a Sense ID Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor. Aside from that, there is nothing. With this round, I will make it a tie.

Price. This is the best part. Do you know why the Xiaomi brand has many fans? It is because of its high-end specs and legendary affordable price. The HTC Bolt is priced at $599 in the US, while the Xiaomi Mi 5c is priced at $144. Yeah, this round goes to Xiaomi Mi 5c.

The Final Verdict

The tally is HTC Bolt with 3 wins and Xiaomi Mi 5c with 3 wins also. Though it is a tie, I would like to add something. Nowadays, new phones keep popping up in the tech market and it is hard to "keep up" with the trend. There will always be a more powerful expensive phone out there right after you bought one of those expensive phones with your hard-earned money.

What I'm trying to say is if you're an average person with average income and is planning to buy an expensive high-spec phone, just make sure that you're in it for the long run and won't be jealous or filled with regrets when a new and more powerful phone comes out. Personally, I will choose the Xiaomi Mi 5c. And in regards about the durability of China phones, that solely depends on how the owner handles it.
