The BMW 1 Series has recently made its debut at the ongoing 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show and it seems like it sparked more than just a few interest. Apparently, it was said to be only distributed in China but some say other countries might also get it. But will the BMW 1 Series make it to the U.S market?
The BMW1 Series Powertrain
Auto Economic Times reported that the BMW 1 Series has three trims that are all powered by petrol namely the 118i, 120i and 125i. According to the report, the first trim is powered by 1.5-liter three-cylinder TwinPower turbo engine that is capable of putting out 136 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 120i and 125i are equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TwinPower engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that shells out 192 and 231 horsepower respectively.
The BMW 1 Series Features
The BMW 1 Series has safety features including collision warning, lane departure warning, pedestrian warning, and emergency assistance. Exterior features include a panoramic sunroof, dual round headlamps paired with LED DRLs, and a double-kidney grille. The interior comes with seats upholstered with leather, dual zone climate control and colored Heads-Up Display (HUD) as reported. Lastly, there will be three driving modes available in the BMW 1 Series namely, comfort, sport and Eco Pro. No further details were given regarding the driving modes.
Will The BMW 1 Series Make It To U.S Market?
According to a report from BMW Blog, the U.S. is the second biggest market for BMW while China takes the top spot. However, it was also mentioned that the sale of BMW 1 and 2 Series combined only reached 8,000 units during the previous year. Will the BMW 1 Series make it to U.S market? This will depend on certain factors such as price and features as reported. Accordingly, political factors may also play a role as Donald Trump is looking to put higher tariffs on imports from Mexico and China.
