It seems like fans are not the only ones surprised with the sudden announcement. Moon Hee Jun's former H.O.T bandmates reacted to the news of his engagement and upcoming marriage to Crayon Pop member Soyul. Moon Hee Jun announced on Thursday, Nov. 24 his upcoming marriage through a handwritten letter posted on his fan café.
In an episode of his radio show, "Kangta's Starry Night," H.O.T former vocalist Kangta said he never dreamed the marriage will happen. "I didn't even know they were dating, let alone getting married. Personally, I am very happy for the couple," he said, cited Soompi
Kangta said that the couple look good together though they have a senior-junior relationship. The couple has an age gap of 13 years -- H.O.T's former leader is 38 while his fiancée, Soyul, is 25 years old.
"So this is how the first idol couple is born. It feels like I'm sending him off and it's a little strange," Kangta said.
He then added that Moon Hee Jun sent him a message earlier and the group is planning a get-together soon. He also said he would sing the wedding song if Moon Hee Jun wants him to and congratulated the couple. On the other hand, Tony An wrote a message for his former H.O.T co-member in his Instagram account. "Hee Jun, I will be the master of ceremonies...," he said alongside a photo of a news article which was later deleted.
H.O.T (High-five Of Teenagers) is considered as one of the pioneers of the "idol group" trend in South Korea together with its rival, Sechs Kies. The group was formed by SM Entertainment head Lee Soo Man in 1996 and was later disbanded in 2001. After their, disbandment, Moon Hee Jun and Kangta were offered solo contracts by SM Entertainment while the remaining three members, Tony An, Jang Woo Hyuk, and Lee Jae Won, formed a group called JTL under another company.
Moon Hee Jun and Soyul have been dating for eight months since April this year and will hold a ceremony in February 2017.
