According to a report from Democrat and Chronicle the 2017 Subaru Outback's engine have not changed from the previous 2.5-liter flat-4 but has an optional 3.6-liter flat-6 capable of putting out 175 and 256 horsepower with 174 and 247 pound-feet of torque respectively. The powertrain is paired with a six-speed continuously variable transmission and an all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain and has a fuel efficiency rate of 25/32/28 city, highway and combined as reported.

The Washington Post reported that the 2017 Subaru Outback is available in six trims from the base trim 2.5i, Limited, Premium, Touring, 3.6R Limited and 3.6R Touring. Safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts and finally, an automatic braking that comes very handy when backing up as reported by The Car Connection.

The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2017 Subaru Outback starts at $26,645 for its base trim. The price goes up as the buyer moves to higher trims. The Premium, Limited, 3.6R Limited, 2.5i Touring and 3.6R Touring are tagged with a price of $27,695, $32,390, $34,995, $35,995 and $38,195 respectively and have already been available in the market since the second half of the current year as reported.

According to the report, a driver-controlled X-Mode feature is also available. The X-mode basically adjusts the transmission to the terrain the vehicle is driving on. This includes hill descent control, incline start assist and a hill holder system.
