Vivo V5 The Perfect Selfie Phone: Vivo V5 Versus iPhone 7

You've just survived Thanksgiving. You've also been exercising and dieting your butt off the whole year just to be picture-ready. And now, it's the final events of the year - Christmas and New Year. Aside from maintaining that picture-ready body, you also have to deal what tech gadget you would want to buy for the month of December.

Thankfully, there is a new phone in the tech market, the Vivo V5. It is labeled as the number one selfie smartphone in the world. It is totally perfect for those picture-taking moments with family and friends, without the need to spend hours photoshopping each picture the next day before posting them in your social media account. Here is what you need to know about the device:

The Number One Selfie Smartphone In The World

Reportedly, one of the top global phone manufacturers, Vivo, has launched its latest phone, the Vivo V5. The device was created to cater to the people who are quite fond of taking selfies. Its price tag is PHP 12,990 ($261). Now, because the Vivo V5 is labeled as the number one selfie phone, let's compare it with one of the best smartphones of 2016, the iPhone 7. Specs and features are based on GSM Arena and GSM-Specs.

Vivo V5 versus iPhone 7

Network. The Vivo V5 has 3 networks, the GSM, HSPA, and LTE. The iPhone 7 has 5 networks, the GSM, CDMA, HSPA, EVDO, and LTE. The iPhone 7 has more network selections, making it the winner of this round.

Body. Body dimension of the Vivo V5 is 153.8 x 75.5 x 7.6 mm and body weight is 154g. The body dimension of the iPhone 7 is 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm and body weight is 138g. Personally, 140-145g is the ideal body weight of a phone for me. Plus, I want to be able to put my phone in my pockets without having the need to worry if it will get crushed when I set down. This round goes to the iPhone 7.

Display. Display type for the Vivo V5 is IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors, display size is 5.5 inches, and display resolution is 720 x 1280 pixels. As for the iPhone 7, display type is LED-backlit IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors, display size is 4.7 inches, and display resolution is 750 x 1334 pixels. I like big screens, especially when I'm playing mobile games or texting. Though I hate heavy phones, I will give this round to the Vivo V5 for its 5.5-inch screen.

Platform. OS of the Vivo V5 is Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow), CPU is 1.8 GHz Octa-core Processor, Chipset is MediaTek, MT6750, and GPU is Mali T860. On the other hand, the iPhone 7's OS is iOS 10.0.1, upgradable to iOS 10.1, CPU is Quad-core 2.34 GHz, the chipset is Apple A10 Fusion, and GPU is six-core graphics. I will give this round to the iPhone 7.

Memory. The Internal memory of the Vivo V5 is 32 GB and 4 GB RAM. The iPhone's internal memory is 32/128/256 GB and 2 GB RAM. I like playing mobile games, so I always fall for phones with high RAM. I will give this round to the Vivo V5.

Camera. Vivo V5's front camera is 20 MP, the rear camera is 13 MP, and video is 1080p@30fps. The iPhone 7's front camera is 12 MP, rear camera is 7 MP, and video is 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps and 720p@240fps. To be honest, I have not yet heard of a smartphone with 20 MP and 13 MP cameras. If there is, please tell me, because, for this round, I'm giving it to the Vivo V5.

Battery. Vivo V5's battery is 3000 mAh. Talk time, standby time and music play is unknown. While iPhone 7's battery is 1960 mAh (7.45 Wh). Talk time is up to 14 hours, music play is up to 40 hours, and standby time is unknown. I will make this round a tie.

Features. Sensory features of the Vivo V5 are a fingerprint, accelerometer, proximity, and compass. The iPhone 7's sensory features are a fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer. The iPhone 7 also has Siri and iCloud cloud service, making it the winner of this round.

The Verdict

The tally is Vivo V5 with 3 wins and iPhone 7 with 5 wins. I think in terms of overall performance, the iPhone 7 wins, but if we focus on the camera alone, the Vivo V5 is on a different level. I wonder if the next iPhones of 2017 will also try to feature high-end cameras because that will be pretty exciting. And plus, I also hope that their "folding" and "glass" iPhones will have larger screens and hopefully just because it is "glass" it won't be very fragile.
