Samsung Galaxy S2: How To Install Android 4.2.2 AOKP Build 4 Jelly Bean ROM (Tutorial)

Good news for Samsung Galaxy S2 owners as they can now install the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean custom ROM thanks to the Android Open Kang Project's (AOKP) latest release of Build 4.

Barely two weeks after the official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S2 was pushed out, the AOKP team released its first build of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Monday, Feb. 25.

The AOKP team has successfully managed to merge the previous AOKP code with the new Android 4.2.2, bringing a stable ROM Galaxy S2 I9100 users' way.

We give you a step-by-step guide on how to flash the ROM for your Galaxy S2 I9100.

Important

- Remember that the instructions are applicable only for use with the Galaxy S2 that has the model number GT-I9100. Flashing the firmware on any other device may damage your smartphone.

- Remember to read through the instructions before beginning.

- Remember to back up all your data.

- Ensure your phone's battery power is at least 80 percent, if not fully charged, to avoid disruption due to power loss.

- Remember that Samsung KIES will not detect your phone after installing Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean since it's a custom ROM.

- Users should note that the instructions given in this guide are meant for reference purpose only and do not cover any warranty claims involving device damage or issues arising out of installing the firmware on your Galaxy S2. Pre-requisites

- Ensure that you have installed the USB drivers for Samsung Galaxy S2 properly.

- Enable USB debugging mode on your phone.

- Perform a Dalvik Cache wipe before proceeding from the recovery mode.

- Ensure that your phone is rooted with ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) installed on it.

Procedure

Step 1: Download Android 4.2.2 AOKP ROM from here to your PC.

Step 2: Download Google Apps for Galaxy S2 I9100 to your PC.

Step 3: Connect and mount your Galaxy S2 USB memory on your PC using the USB cable.

Step 4: Next, copy the downloaded Android 4.2.2 zip file and Google Apps zip to the SD card.

Step 5: Next, switch off your device and disconnect it from the USB cable.

Step 6: Switch on your phone while pressing and holding the Volume Up + Menu + Power buttons until the device boots into Recovery mode.

Step 7: Next, perform a full data wipe first in the ClockworkMod recovery. Next, scroll down to "flash zip from SD card" and press the Power button to select the same.

Step 8: Press the Power button and select "choose zip from sdcard."

Step 9: Next, use the volume keys to navigate to the Android 4.2.2 zip file you copied to the SD card. Select it using the Power button. Confirm the installation by selecting Yes > Install. The procedure should start now.

NOTE: Repeat this step again for the Google Apps zip file.

Step 10: Once the installation is complete, select "Go Back" and reboot the phone by selecting "reboot system now" from the recovery menu. The phone will boot now and may take about 5 minutes, so wait until the process completes.

You now have the Android 4.2.2 AOKP Build 4 Jelly Bean installed on your Samsung Galaxy S2. Verify the firmware version by going to Settings >About Phone.
