College Football has been full of surprises after Ohio had a controversial 30-27 win against Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 26. Despite its loss to its ancient archival, Michigan remains to be one of the best teams and it deserves a spot in the playoff. Meanwhile, Texas announced in a press conference on Sunday, Nov. 27 that Houston's Tom Herman will be the Longhorns' new coach.
College Football Playoffs
After Saturday's double-overtime game, Ohio has now won 14 out of its last 16 games. Even if the Buckeyes only won by three points in Saturday's game and it will not win the Big Ten, many sports columnists believe that it deserves a spot in the playoffs. The recent win, despite the irregularities, should sway the committee's decision.
While the scoreboards are clear on who the winning team is, there were numerous controversies with Saturday's game. Michigan's coach Jim Harbaugh admitted that he was "bitterly disappointed" about the officials who favored the Buckeyes. As Yahoo's sports columnist puts it, the Wolverines trailed for only 3 minutes and 57 seconds and its quarterback had a shoulder injury. Since the playoff is about the best teams based on the committee's selection criteria, there is much hope that Ohio and Michigan will have a spot in the playoffs.
Texas Longhorns Name New Coach
There were rumors that Herman is going to leave Houston to coach either Louisiana or Texas in the past weeks. LSU Tigers named Ed Orgeron as its new coach and last Sunday, Texas formally introduced Herman as the new coach for the Longhorns. After a poor performance during the past three seasons, Texas fired Charlie Strong as the Longhorns coach.
During the press conference, Herman made a promise that Texas Longhorns will be back to its former glory. He also expressed his desire to "win championships" and added that he is "not feeling any sense of pressure at all." With Herman's departure, Houston's defensive coordinator Todd Orlando will serve as interim coach.
